The National Occupational Standard and Essential Skills profile of a Landscape Horticulturist describes the skills, knowledge and abilities required to perform the duties of a Landscape Horticulturist. Occupational standards can be used for a variety of purposes, including: acting as the basis for training; curriculum development; accreditation of training programs; recruitment; performance improvement; career development and the certification of practitioners. This publication was developed by CAHRC and industry professionals, as part of the Occupational Standards and Learning Tools for the Ornamental Sector pilot project.
The critical path for developing the above-noted National Occupational Standard and on-the job learning materials were recently published in booklet and illustrative formats.

CAHRC and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to develop, implement and achieve joint projects and other initiatives that address agriculture’s human resource issues. This includes activities that will increase sector participation in education and training.
