Board of Directors

The work of the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council is guided by a Board of Directors that represents provincial and commodity groups across Canada. The Chair of Board is Terry Murray of Wild Rose Agricultural Producers in Alberta, and the Vice-Chair is Mervin Wiseman of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture.

Terry Murray

Wild Rose Agricultural Producers provides an effective voice for Alberta's farmers and develops policy that benefits agriculture. Comprising farmers and ranchers who wish to have a voice in shaping the future of their farming operation, Wild Rose is Alberta's largest producer-funded general farm organization. Since it was founded in 1996, Wild Rose has tried to represent the majority of producers on a wide array of farm-related issues ranging from tire recycling to the World Trade Organization.

Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture co-ordinates the efforts of Newfoundland and Labrador farmers and promotes their common interest through collective action to represent their interests with provincial and federal governments. This is to ensure the development of policies and programs designed to further agricultural development within the Province.

Ontario Federation of Agriculture is a farmer-lead dynamic provincial lobby which works to represent the interests of its farm members to government and to improve the economic and social well-being of farmers in co-operation with county, commodity, and rural farm groups.

Keystone Agricultural Producers is a democratically controlled general farm lobby organization which represents and promotes the interests of agriculture and agricultural producers in Manitoba. This grassroots organization is wholly run and funded by its members. All policy is set by producers from Manitoba's diverse agricultural industry.

Ron Bonnett

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture is a farmer-funded, national umbrella organization representing provincial general farm organizations and national commodity groups. Its mission is to promote the interests of Canadian agriculture and agri- food producers, including farm families, through leadership at the national level, and to ensure the continued development of a viable and vibrant agriculture and agri-food industry in Canada.

 

Doug Connery

The Canadian Horticultural Council is a voluntary, not-for-profit national association with a long and proud history of representing the dynamic and diverse sector of Canadian agriculture known as horticulture. From the Atlantic to the Pacific, the Council’s members are primarily involved in the production and packing of over 120 horticulture crops comprising fruit, vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants.

 

Cyr Couturier

The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance is a national industry association that represents the interests of Canadian aquaculture operators, feed companies and suppliers, as well as provincial finfish and shellfish aquaculture associations. The Alliance works to ensure the international competitiveness of the Canadian aquaculture industry.

 

Harold Deenen

The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association is a self-governing national body dedicated to leadership through its activities. The Association links nine provincial member associations in landscape, horticulture and nursery industries. It also co-ordinates provincial member groups in the Canadian ornamental horticulture industry.

 

Lloyd Dyck

Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture tackles policy issues that impact the competitive and sustainable nature of the industry, and takes an active role in advancing the needs of Nova Scotia’s agricultural community at the local, regional and national levels.

 

David Geen

The British Columbia Agriculture Council provides leadership in representing, promoting, and advocating the collective interests of all agricultural producers in the Province of British Columbia. The Council fosters co-operation and a collective response to matters affecting the future of agriculture in the province, and facilitates programs and service delivery for a number of programs that benefit the industry.

 

Alvin Keenan

PEI Federation of Agriculture works to improve the sustainability of Island farms and farm families. Along with reviewing all legislative and regulatory issues that impact the competitiveness and sustainability of the agricultural sector, the Federation actively lobbies for changes to existing, legislation, regulation and public policy to reflect the progress and dynamics of the industry. In addition, the Federation continually develops and delivers programs and services to meet the needs of the farm community.

 

Connie Kehler

The Canadian Herb, Spice and Natural Health Products Coalition is a group of industry representatives across the country who work together to tackle issues that are common nationally. Its mission is to build a viable national herb, spice and natural health product industry which highlights regional strengths and expertise, and optimizes national synergies. The Saskatchewan Herb and Spice Association is the voice for the coalition.

 

Patrice Finnigan

The Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick is the provincial association representing the voice of New Brunswick agricultural producers. Its mandate is to develop partnerships conducive to the development of the agricultural industry; to recommend legislation, regulations, strategies, policies, programs and standards relative to the advancement of the industry; and to encourage professional and technical development of agricultural producers.

 

Pierre Lemieux

Union des producteurs agricoles is a professional farmers’ union organization. Its main purpose and actions are based on the following values: respect for the individual, solidarity, collective action, social justice, fairness, and democracy. The chief mission of the Union is to promote, defend, and develop the professional, economic, social, and moral interests of Quebec’s farm producers, without distinction as to race, nationality, gender, language or beliefs.

 

Shawna Ference

The Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum facilitates the exchange of information and fosters collaboration between young and beginning farmers across the country. Today, the Forum provides a multi-faceted development opportunity for young farmers aged 18 – 40, that serves to inform participants, consolidate young farmer opinion, and offer leadership training and advice.

 

Don Connick

The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan is a grassroots, producer-focused farm organization that successfully lobbies all levels of government for continuous improvements to agriculture programs on behalf of Saskatchewan producers. Its vision is to serve as the voice for agriculture in Saskatchewan. APAS envisions a future where agriculture is profitable, rural economies are viable and the role of agriculture in society is recognized and appreciated.

Brad Dowell

The Association of Canadian Community Colleges is the national and international voice of Canada’s colleges and institutes. Its mandate includes acting as an advocate for member institutions and developing policy advice to government in human resources development and in areas that impact life-long learning.
