Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council
Celebrates First Ag Day in Canada
January 23, 2008
OTTAWA – The Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council today recognized the first Ag Day in Canada and its focus on the people who live and breathe agriculture – and the issues that matter to Canada’s agriculture sector.
“We applaud Farm Credit Canada for orchestrating the first Ag Day in Canada,” said Terry Murray, Chair of CAHRC. “Canadians need to celebrate the diverse group of men and women who drive agriculture industries across the nation, and recognize their contribution to our everyday lives.”
Ag Day in Canada highlights a number of important issues and opportunities relevant to agriculture, including attracting and retaining qualified employees in the agriculture sector. Within the Ag Day agenda, participants will learn how one of the largest mushroom farms in Canada finds good employees in a tight market.
This feature is complementary to the mission of the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council to research, develop and communicate solutions to HR issues identified by the industry, including labour shortages, and recruitment and retention challenges. The Council is presently compiling labour market information related to recruitment and retention to understand the complexity and scope of labour needs identified by agriculture operations across Canada. This initiative will also help CAHRC to determine the best ways for the agriculture industry to recruit and retain workers in their operations.
“CAHRC is proud to be participating in Ag Day events across the country,” said Mr. Murray. “We look forward to many celebrations in the years to come.”
