With such a diverse range of commodities and industries, it's not surprising that agriculture-related associations number in the hundreds. These organizations offer training programs, courses and workshops to their members—and sometimes to other agriculture populations. But to date, the learning activities of agriculture associations have not been gathered together into an easily accessible format for agriculture stakeholders to leverage, share and put to new uses.
From October 2009 to August 2010, the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council will compile a detailed list of Canada’s agriculture associations with up-to-date contact information. The Council will inventory information about their training programs , which will then be uploaded on AgriTalent.ca. In addition, CAHRC will report findings on the associations and their learning opportunities, and will produce a final association compendium in a user-preferred format.
As a result of the Compendium of Agriculture Associations and their Learning Programs project, farmers will have the first comprehensive source of non-profit and commodity agriculture associations across Canada. Information on agriculture association training programs will also be searchable, bilingual, and available on-line within the AgriTalent.ca database.
It is expected that the compendium will enable the formation of new partnerships among associations. It will also be used to expand CAHRC’s current network of partners and stakeholders in order to increase the effectiveness of the Council’s outreach activities.
